Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close, the NSE added 0.28%, while the index rose 0.23%.

Best performers of the session that day Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:), which was up 2.44% or 11.20 points to trade at 469.30. Meanwhile, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (NS:) added 2.25% or 3.25 points to end at 147.60. JSW Steel Ltd (NS: ) was up 2.07% or 15.40 points to 759.65.

Worst performers of the session Nestlé of India Ltd. (NS:), which declined 1.59% or 324.80 points to trade at 20,063.50. ICICI BANK LTD (NS:) declined 1.20% or 11.20 points to end at 921.75 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS: ) declined 1.06% or 8.85 points to 829.20.

Top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO: ) up 1.84% to 1,065.05, Tata Steel Ltd (BO: ) up 1.66% to 113.00 and NTPC Ltd (BO: ) up 1.3%. Closing at 171.95.

Nestlé India Ltd (BO: ) was down 1.82% to 20,020.60, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO: ) lost 1.16% to 921.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: ) was down 1.13% in late trade. 828.60 at the end.

The National Stock Exchange of India ended 1037 lower at 863 and 51 unchanged. On the BSE, 1937 advanced, 1470 declined, and 143 ended unchanged.

The Nifty 50, a measure of implied volatility, was unchanged at 0.02% at 12.89.

Gold futures for February delivery were down 0.32%, or 5.80, at $1,819.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.94%, or 0.71, to settle at $76.10 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.87%, or 0.70, to trade at $81.38 a barrel.

USD/INR gained 0.12% to 82.48 and EUR/INR gained 0.35% to 87.87.

US dollar index futures were down 0.18% at 103.39.
